The mirror of your heart
Once held images of blossoms
Unwrapping their beauty
In the beauty of spring,
When your feet danced
To the song of hope
And your eyes shone
With the light of passion.

But somewhere along the way
Spring threw her storms
At your heart,
Smashing the images
You saw in the mirror.

Now innocence
And openness
Are no longer virtues
To be embraced,
But jagged pitfalls
To be feared.

When you look in the mirror of your heart
You see a putrid swamp
Coated with oily slime,
And the only signs
Of former years
Are the wrappers and bottles left behind,
Empty and forgotten,
Littering your heart.

You drop out of school
Without a future to build for,
Trashing your dreams
And scrapping your passions,
Drawing yourself a future
In a prison cell,
Not because it is what you want,
But because you believe
It is the only place
In the whole world
A piece of crap like you
Is fit for.

But I am here to tell you
That your mirror is lying—
What I see in your heart
Is a blossom
Wounded from the storms of life,
But beautiful
Beyond anything in this world,
Waiting for another soul
To stop,
And dare to peek inside.

Lovely ending with the line of waiting for another soul to 'dare to peek inside'. Really nice imagery in this--I liked the verse with innocence--because it's so true in today's world. Thanks for sharing!

Whoa! I think what I liked best about this, even though it is a well written piece in so many other ways, is that it was honest, fresh and the imagery was right on. Thank you for writing this. It spoke to my heart and I know if others read this it would touch their hearts as well. God bless you!!

This piece really packed a punch as it began with hopes which were run over with disappointments, and then ended on a beautiful new ray of hope for a brighter tomorrow. Many readers will relate to this entry. Good work.

A sensitive picture of many lives and discouraged hopes. Loved your last lines!

This poignant writing really touches the heart - not least because it is the way so many of our young people feel about themselves. Beautifully written. Lovely and precious ending.

Your poem is full of truth and honesty. It truly touched my heart, because you reveal through your images how we sometimes don't see ourselves through Jesus's eyes.

This piece was written just for Me. Thank you.

Congratulations for ranking 9th in your level and 11th overall!
