Career, people, things take up my time;
Go there, come here, do this, don’t delay!
Up the ladder of success I climb,
My spiritual life in disarray.
I hear a voice whisper. . .

Be Still

Lots of places to go, folks to see,
Life is so busy the days go fast.
There’s not enough time for even me,
Before I know it the days are past.
Again I hear a voice. . .

Where your treasure is so is your heart

Lord, I truly meant to talk with You,
But I had to work, my children feed.
And an old friend called out of the blue,
She was feeling sad and so in need.
The voice said. . .

Your life a vapor will soon depart

I lost my health, my friends, and career,
It seemed that life had passed me by.
But my Lord was close so very near,
He said, ‘Ev’ry need I will supply.’
I read in His Word. . .

‘Gain the entire world lose your soul.
The grass withers the flower it fades.’
Our Sovereign God is in full control,
He alone numbers all of our days.

He says, ‘Be Still and Know I Am God.’
Make time listen to the still small voice,
Who speaks of life in the Lamb of God
‘Come child rest in me, it is your choice.’

Great devotional poem. My favorite paragraph (stanza, is that what is't called?) is the second to last.
Rachel Phelps03/06/11
Your progression through the poem was excellent, nice pacing through the stages. Well done.

This poem reminds me of what a friend told me about knowing what's more important—family or career. When we are sick, who are the ones who care for us and worry about us? Are they our loved ones or the people who pay us for our work or service?

You have captured the essence of what’s really important in life very well. Thanks for sharing this.

Excellent job. I liked the soft words into the stanzas.
