With what remains

I kneel in dirt, so dust, so dry, so creek-bed-dead I cry
I breathe in ash, so cinder, so charred, so colorless gray I pray

Scorched solar switches lash and slash my blistered bare back I bleed
I plead
With what remains of me

Drops of blood

Splash

On barren earth in time with my wristwatch tick
Parched pale land swallows each red drip
A thirst never quenched, a glut with no quit

I plead
With what remains of me

______

I left
Tomorrow
Swallowed in yesterday
Inside a pine box of what could have been

What a waste of

So much
In the past

I knelt on gold, so bright, so bold, so filthy rich cold I lied
I drank fine wine, so dry, so smooth, so sate with pride I died
Like a loosed leaf dried
Like a loosed leaf dried

I floated from the tree of golden apples
Captured by breezes
To the river of ash
Where I saw my reflection
In a creek-bed-so-dead I cried
In a creek-bed-so-dead I cried

______

I plead from what is left

Mercy God please
Forgive

Consume time survived
Like a seed
In your garden of life

And if I bloom in the spring
Let my reflection
Be
Your face

With what remains

Of me
In You

Wow. Henry, your poems always leave me mulling. The pictures you paint are stellar as always. Your last section is incredible. Thank you for sharing your gift.

Henry, Your gift shines in this poem!

Henry, as a newbie to FWs you are an inspiration! I don't always 'get' the full meaning of your poetry immediately (hehe), hence I am lead to read and re-read until I do, waiting for the amazing revelation I know will eventuate. You are unique, and I believe your writing will no doubt be a beacon for Christ in areas that are so often left in darkness for lack of knowing how to reach them.

You captured the angst of the narrator perfectly. Enjoyed reading/reflecting on this greatly.

Henry,

Your poem is full of passion and heart. It gave me goosebumps just reading it.

I am also new to FW. I can only hope to someday be half as good as you are.

I really liked the line:

I left tommorrow swallowed in yesterday.
