This age of technology
It robs my mind of peace,
Computers, ipods, cell phones
Do they add to or decrease.
If what they add is relevant
To serving you, my Lord--
Then why am I so restless,
Discontented and often bored?
The music plugged into my ears
Feeds quickly to my brain,
Does it improve my outlook--
By the words is something gained?
Cell phones, just modern toys
With games and codes for texting,
Precious time that could be used
For spiritual muscle flexing.
Grandma spoke of simpler times
Friendly porch swing conversations,
And neighborhoods where children played
Outside in Godís creation.
She made it sound so wonderful
Wish Iíd be born back then,
Relationships were deep and true
Unlike most Facebook friends.
The world is spinning way too fast
Oh please hold back Your anger,
Slow the pace, and grant restraint
For souls that flirt with danger.
This hi-tech world is really just
Replaying Bible pages,
Empires fell when hearts forgot
Who rules through all the ages.
I guess I should be happy
My nameplate bears a title,
Awaken me to Your plan
Today Lord, please itís vital.
