what would be of our lives,
if our lives were but a day?
would we live it some other way?
a mere day,
twenty-four hours,
one sunrise, one sunset,
one journey of the moon across the sky,
what if this were our soulís supply?
would we choose a winterís day, a Christmas Day,
a day of cloistered warmth in flannel shirts and cozied fire,
cuddling with loved ones and drinking hot spiced tea.
is this the day we would choose to be?
would we choose a summerís day, a sunshine day,
a day of romping barefoot in barley hay,
swimming with good friends and shouting with glee,
is this the day we would choose to be?
maybe a day in the springtime fresh, a greening day,
a day of beginning newborn hopes and emerging dreams,
listening to wild geese returning home to be with thee.
is this the day we would choose to be?
or possibly, yes, quite possibly a day in autumn, an aging day,
a day of strolling through a softening gold with friends grown old,
leaning against the strength of a wise, oak tree.
is this the day we would choose to be?
twenty-four hours of soulful breath,
what would our lifetimes turn out to be?

Very powerful thoughts here. Not sure what I would do-will have to think about it!

Wow! What a thing to think about. I don't know what I would choose. Very thought-provoking.

A very searching question, indeed! I'm afraid many of us would spend the day wondering (in the back of our minds, at least) whether we should have chosen a different sort of day. Good job.

Such wondrous thoughts to be pondered as I made my way through the beautiful imagery of the seasons. A very enjoyable poem.
Verna Cole Mitchell 02/07/11
With your lyrical words, you lead your reader into pondering. I'll take one of each, please.
Loren T. Lowery02/07/11
I can't chose, so I'll take all with a promise that a long, sustained memory is included.
Your poem brought back many fond remembrance of days gone by. I wish to reclaim them all.
