Hidden behind brittle hair, sunken eyes tell a story of fear and hopelessness. Caved in shoulders speak of her trepidation. This timid woman's gait exposes a heartbreaking despondency. At first glance, she appears expressionless and yet her look reveals sorrow. Her thinness screams for help, yet she is too afraid to reach out for a hand or render a word.

How did this woman, once full of life and hope, experience such a change in her countenance? Where did this inner heaviness and helplessness find its way into her life and weigh down her very frame? What led her to become a shadow of her former self? How did anorexia invade her life?

How can I help her? What can I say to her so she will know that she is loved? How can I convey to her that God's perfect love can penetrate her heart, drive out her fear and take the place of the bondage that now grips her heart? This work in her heart is not mine to do and yet I feel God is inviting me to be a part of His work in some way.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please restore the sparkling joy in her eyes, the confidence in the way she carried herself, the faith-filled resolve in her step, the beaming smile and the vibrant health she once possessed. All of these outward signs will speak of Your glory, Your compassion, Your touch.

Father, only You can heal her heart, lighten her way, calm her anxiety, comfort her soul and lead her to freedom. May she open her heart to Your love, and may she open her mind to Your truth.

As I approach her, may the words I speak be only Yours, may I declare only truth to her and may Your love flow through my lips.

Oh, Holy Spirit, please utter groans beyond what words can express on behalf of this forlorn soul. You understand what she needs more than any other human can. In Your hands, she is safe, she is loved, and she can one day be free.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.

This is a clear invitation to participate in God's heartbeat for broken people, because only His grace can work the miracles they need. Excellent approach.

Folks could learn a lot from your first paragraph...you visually captured what this woman was feeling and suffering. Powerful descriptions of her body language. Sounds like God sent the right caring person at the right time to help her.

Beautiful. There's so much behind those eyes. A story that many would be shocked to hear. The prayer was lovely.

What a beautiful piece.

I hope this piece somehow finds its way to the ears of someone suffering with such an affliction. I can only imagine it would have a postitive influence.
