TITLE: No Weapon Formed
By Karen Elengikal

No Weapon Formed

“Did you see that?” The hideous creature looked around to gauge his evil companions’ opinion of the unthinkable event that just took place. A prolonged silence followed as the demons watched the two men kneeling amid the putrid refuse on the pavement. The dark enclosure was shrouded in pure spiritual light as glorified angels joined the praying men, spreading their wings around them and obscuring the wicked beings view as the Kingdom of Heaven gained a new son.

“He was ours. Now he belongs to…to Christ!” The repulsive creature hissed with hatred through long pointed teeth.

“Every night it’s the same thing! That Pastor dares to intrude here…where we rule, snatching another of our master’s captives from our grip.”

Finally, the head demon spoke as they looked on in disgust at the drunkard’s salvation, “We have to destroy this Pastor’s passion to lead these captured souls to our enemy. We’ll plan his downfall…through…defamation.” The demonic leader announced with spittle foaming around his gross, thick lips. Thrilled at the prospect of humiliating one of the Christ’s sons, their eyes glowed with evil, laughing hideously as they huddled together to devise battle strategy.

“Gossip, the plan starts with you. Go immediately and rouse Mita Bigjowles from her sleep. We have used her infamously in the past to great effect.” The demons snickered. “Remind her of what she observed on Wednesday night in the car park. Flood her mind with images of the Pastor with his arm around that young woman’s waist after she had slipped and fallen to the ground. Don’t let her think about anything else until she is convinced that the woman was a prostitute and he was negotiating with her.”

“It’s always gratifying to plant lies and deception,” Gossip chortled through his pointed teeth. “Mita can’t keep her mouth shut and by 8am, the whole church will know the sordid truth about their street-roaming Pastor!” A fetid stench followed Gossip as he eagerly unfolded his black leathery wings and disappeared into the night.

Rumor pinched his grotesquely thick lips absent-mindedly as he contemplated his own wicked devices. “Our objective is to undermine this soul-winning Pastor’s reputation and have him expelled from the church in disgrace.” The creature’s eyes again filled with hatred for the Christ and for those who seriously followed Him. “Come, there’s not much time before dawn…our most profitable work is achieved in the darkness!” He counseled the imp-like demon who had also been assigned to destroy the Pastor.

“We have two crucial engagements to keep.” Rumor added as the pair lifted their vile bodies from the dark alleyway into the cold night sky.

Standing beside Jeffery Feebles’ bed, Rumor pressed his gnarled fingers deeply into the sleeping man’s skull, injecting lying visual concepts into his dreams. Tossing in his sleep, the whispered suggestions intensify, abruptly waking the church treasurer.

How dare that Pastor use church funds at Cafes…in that part of town, late at night!

His thick venomous lips spreading in a wide smile, Rumor pressed in deeper. “He’s spending it on ‘questionable’ young women. I know what’s really going on!”

Fully awake now, Rumor further arouses his mind. “I wonder if the Board knows what the Pastor is doing with our money?”

Mr Feebles glanced at the bedside clock. The bright red numbers read 5.43am.

“He’s taken the bait.” Rumor gloated, “We employ self-righteousness and human weaknesses to our advantage.”

Seizing the momentum, Rumor shouted, “No-one will mind me calling this early with such important news!”

With their quarry reaching for the telephone, the demons quickly slithered out of the room. “Now to confuse the Pastor’s mind…muddle the events in his understanding, so he is incapable of responding to the imminent accusations.”

Kneeling beside his bed, tears streaming down his face, the Pastor’s prayer continued to open the heavens over the city. Hearing the voice of the Spirit he opened the familiar pages of his Bible. “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” Revelation into the enemies plan to destroy his ministry is imparted by the Spirit.

Sensing the atmosphere darken as Rumor and his cohort entered the room, the Pastor stood to address the battle pitted against him.

“No weapon formed against me will prosper…”

Brilliant light suddenly exploded as warring angels with swords drawn encircle the stupefied evil spirits.

“Stop!” The demons screamed as angelic swords pierced through their bodies.

“I will refute every tongue raised against me…none shall touch me.”

Scripture verses: Proverbs 21:30 and Isaiah 54:17 No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

This was a suspenseful story but I had to stop in the middle to laugh at the name Mita Bigjowles. Great job.

Very descriptive. Reminded me of Frank Peretti's style of writing in This Present Darkness. Good job.

Dark, eerie but insightful that there is an unseen world busy and active. Yay, glad to see the Truth prevailed over the evil. Great story telling.
