A Tug Of War

A tug of war in the spiritual realm,
A fight for the upper hand,
My flesh or His Spirit, to which will I heed,
To which will I offer command?

An invisible battleŚmy will or His,
God willing, I make the right choice,
My future's dependent on what I decide,
My flesh or God's sweet, gentle voice.

The past holds its burden of mem'ries,
And guilt oppresses the soul,
The regrets hold me in bondage
Until on God's mercy I roll.

A tug of war in my spirit,
A battle my flesh has to lose,
If I would know peace in my future
His voice in this moment I choose.

Moment by moment decisions
Create the person I'll be,
Joy for the moment or peace evermore--
Bound by regrets or be free.

The warring will last a lifetime,
We're human and thus it must be,
But we are His light in the darkness,
His candle for others to see.

A tug of war in the spiritual realm,
A fight for the upper hand,
My flesh or His Spirit, to which will I heed,
To which will I offer command?

Romans 7:14-25

This is a lovely poem.

Great take on the truth of Romans 7. It is a battle in every Christian's inner person, and so much does depend on the choice.

This poetic metaphor could not be more fitting for this week's theme. Even as much as we know who we are, it is still a struggle not to be pulled across the line. Your poem expressed this beautifully.
