Sweet nectar, we embraced it
Long ago when we were young,
Oh my, how we were smitten--
Love laced words fell from our tongues.
The courtship was romantic
Often sizzling with desire,
From lips we tasted passion
Which stirred embers in our fire.
Marriage happened naturally
Our love, we knew was real,
Courting is an appetizer,
Forever after--that’s the meal.
Those first years love was fresh
As it ripened on the vine,
Tender shoots of happiness
Added flavor as we dined.
Middle years brought experience
To know just how to season
Challenges that came along--
Even tragedy without reason.
Sometimes adding spices
Perked up life when it got bland,
Another time, a sweetener
Helped each other understand.
Just as yeast is vital
To get the dough to rise,
Laughter is essential in
Everybody’s lives.
Now we’re in our golden years
Sometimes our moods get gruff,
But love’s a tenderizer
Where a touch adds just enough.
A trace of zest, a dash of salt
Liven menus that are boring,
To keep your meal from getting dull,
Kindle romance ‘til it’s roaring.
