He spoke,
darkness quaked,
and shattered asunder!
A million fragments of
luminous light
blazed forth with
brilliance.
And where there
was nothing,
arose shape
in splendor.

He spoke
and the oak
stretched high in the sky,
with acorns hiding
under higgledy hats.
Larkspur and
lavender,
drenched with the
dew of dawn,
lifted dainty heads
to greet the first day.

He spoke,
and silver salmon
swept through the clear waters,
finches twittered in the tree-tops,
frogs croaked a crescendo.

Across the ages,
He spoke to men ...
- to Abraham, "Through you I will bless,"
- to Moses, "Through you I will deliver,"
- to David, "Through you I will reign,"
- to Jesus, "Through you I will save."

Today
He still would speak,
to each one
He created,

and with each
in the
language
of his soul.

Thus some of us
must take the
enigma of
eternity,

and weave it,
with wisdom and
written words,

that the Creator's call
would reach to all,

to resound
and reverberate
in every valley
and high hill.

What we seek
to do is
as elusive as
a butterfly,

and our goal as
lovely too -

a magnificent mosaic,
quivering with life,
colors glorious
in glowing gossamer,
light breaking through
wafting wings
of wonder.

Beautiful,
but fragile,
easily crushed
by carelessness.

Just the right words
to show the true weights -
of justice and mercy,
redemption and responsibility,
hope and healing,
the heart of Heaven.

A shade too dark here -
crimson for pink -
or washed over in white,
and the painting’s
destroyed.

But the Artist will guide
the novice's hand,
as he caresses
and colors
the page with
precision.

The Word will speak
in the translator's
ear,
as he seeks
and sifts,
the sounds
of the symphony.

Without this
we are
doomed,
our words
dusty and
dank,

but under His baton,
a cantata
bursts forth,

a brilliant butterfly
perfectly poised,

a masterpiece painting
with heavenly hues.

Thus, many more
will sip at
the nectar
of Life,

and feast
at the
Banquet
when He speaks
again.
