Pencil in hand
Words tumble onto paper in a haphazard way
Fighting for a chance to tell their story, they push and shove
Looking for order
Research brings credibility to thoughts
Scribbles and scratches, lines and arrows
Sort ideas into meaning and content
Truth and value
And then
Right hand types faster than the left
Creating words that are not words at all
Squiggly red lines draw attention to mistakes
And the green ones annoy with ideas of their own
There, their, they’re
Write right for heaven’s sake
Ideas are good but something is missing
New words, better words, synonyms perfect
Too many words
Read and edit, examine and revise
Develop and adjust
Less is more
Show, don’t tell
Loved ones share their opinions
Never two the same
“It’s good” is not good enough
The story must tell itself
Yet we must help it
Tears, laughter, love, adventure
Or a lesson learned
The writer must write
But it cannot end there.
If the story is not read, is it told?
