Johann Bengal (1687-1752) said: "Put nothing into the Scriptures, but draw everything from them, and suffer nothing to remain hidden that is really in them. Remember that the Spirit must always accompany our writing so that we never devise a more spiritual meaning for Scripture passages than the Holy Spirit intended."
I have been challenged to maintain this standard throughout my writing, by not assuming, inferring, nor presenting any theories of my own, but rather allowing the Holy Spirit to quicken my spirit to dig as deeply as possible into the words of God, and then let each word speak for itself.
This writer does not take lightly the responsibility of imparting the Word of God, and prays that the Holy Spirit has guided me in all spiritual truth. I take seriously the admonition found in James 3:1 NIV: "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
My writing has become a tool that God is using to draw me closer to him and is an example to me of His faithfulness. When you sense that the Lord is directing you to take the next step in your writing challenges, and when you are bold enough to take them, he will bless the outcome more than you can imagine.
There are two main reasons I've accepted this type of challenge. The first reason is to prove to myself that I can write in several different genres. The second reason is, because I want to grow to my full potential in Christ. Personally I believe that I am on my way. My Heavenly Father has shown me his faithfulness, in that, when he gives you an assignment, he will also give you the supernatural power to achieve it.
I am honored that so many fellow writers join me on our continuing journey as we share with each other what our seeking has discovered. I often think that my strongest credential is my resume of stupid mistakes I've made through the years since taking up writing, especially since becoming an apprentice of Jesus Christ and being edited by the Holy Spirit.
God is a God of new beginnings. It seems that he is always providing new seeds to plant in our lives so that they will grow and mature and bring forth a new season of life in us. Believe me, I am a testimony to the fact that God is able to take stark desert lands and turn them into fertile fields. I have experienced the joy of the redeemed as spoken of in Isaiah 35:1.
