“There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away” –Emily Dickinson

Hoist the anchor! Loose the sails!
Swim in sunlight, taste the gales—
Let our destination be
Past the bluest of the seas,
And when all our traveling ’s done,
Let it take us to the sun!

Mount our chargers! Give them rein!
Jump the hedges, half insane—
Let them carry us to realms
Where the sights will overwhelm;
To new views of love and grace,
Giving glimpses of God’s face!

Travel on a phoenix’s wings,
Dance with faeries, greet a king—
Let us see the mysteries
Captured all through history,
That we may, with clearer mind,
Turn each rock for truth behind!

Ride a chariot fueled by fire,
Like a rocket—take us higher!
Carry us through clouds and sky,
Let us meet the stars that shine;
Take us past where angels trod,
Take us to the living God…

Wow, wow, wow. Truly captured the essence of where reading can take us. Especially loved, "Giving glimpses of God's face", "Let us see the mysteries", and "Take us to the living God..." This poem is definitely going in my journal, reminding me to always strive for these things in my own writing. Absolutely wonderful!
