A word is like a slab of stone
That’s used to build a step toward God,
Or used instead for cruel design,
To knock another to the ground—

If ink leaves imprints on the soul,
Then may it leave the scent of love;
’Cause there are no erasers
That make it back the way it was—

A pen is like a warrior’s sword,
That fights for freedom for mankind,
Or lashes out with hate and malice
And stabs your dearest friend from behind—

A book is an oasis
Or a mirage, which leaves you dry,
With bitter longings in your heart
And phantoms swaying in your eyes—

A word is like a slab of stone,
So let me build a step toward God!
May every word with hope inspire,
In every sound may grace be found—

My ink leaves imprints on the soul,
I want to draw the swirls of love,
Impressing sweetness and compassion,
With truth and mercy interwoven—

My pen is like a warrior’s sword,
So I will fight to make men free,
I’ll fight each demon of oppression
And break the chains of slavery—

Each book can be a drink of life—
May I supply the vital draft
To open doors to worlds unknown
And bring a heart to the arms of Christ…
