“Shh,” said the serpent.
“Don’t pray today.
You don’t have time.
You must be on your way.”

“Shh,” said the serpent.
“Don’t read the word.
You really don’t need it.
The message you’ve already heard.”

“Shh,” said the serpent.
“Don’t witness to him.
He isn’t going to listen.
His insight’s way too dim.”

And so the serpent whispers
And too often we do heed
The lies of fire and brimstone
While others we fail to lead.

But God’s great love forgives us
And power He will send
If only we will ask Him
Mighty angels will attend.

Then when the serpent whispers
His vile lies into our ear
God’s great angel will step forward
Watch the serpent. He cowers in fear!

See him tremble, see him falter
This mighty being with power so vast?
Truth be told, oh see him tremble?
Why he’s just a snake in the grass.

I enjoyed your poem a great deal. The rhythm was perfect and the words ones I need to hear.

Great and powerful message. Fun too.

Great blend of topic and spiritual truths with a little humor for good measure!
