I call the packed highway,
The high point of my day,
A time I use for worshiping the Lord;
In peak-hour traffic jams
I’m singing songs and psalms
And thinking on the teachings of His Word.
My happy heart is filled,
The city rush is stilled,
Though eyes are firmly focused on the road;
In pleasant, joyful bliss,
Where nothing seems amiss—
My spirit is at peace in worship mode.
I saw him looming large,
Face flushed with bust and barge,
I knew he wasn’t pleased to be behind;
I felt his angry glare,
Cold tingles in my hair—
“Grrr” crowded out serenity of mind.
How “angerrr” can outflow!
I moved and let him go,
He sped up to harass the car ahead—
An episode like this
Disturbs the inner bliss
And leaves an empty feeling in its stead!
But “grrrs” can make you “grrr”ow;
Enduring faith will show,
If you commit your trials unto Christ;
He’ll turn these things around
And blessing will abound,
As depicted in His perfect sacrifice.
This world is not our home,
Nor do we walk alone,
And though our foe prowl like a “grrroaring” lion;
Though Christ we’re guaranteed
He’ll meet our every need—
Far Greater is the Lamb—the king of Zion!
