Before a word
Was spoken
Before the world
Became
Before the Spirit
Hovered over the void
And order was carved
From chaos

You chose me

Before a spark
Ignited in the hidden place
Before bones and flesh
Became
Before cells
Multiplied and divided
And ciphers concealed in DNA
Dictated character

You chose me

Before light
Greeted birth
Before breath
Became
Before eyes opened
And fingers twitched
And a motherís breast
Nourished

You chose me

Before I learned
Right from wrong
Before aware I
Became
Before sin engraved its name
On cruel words
And careless actions
And selfish ambitions

You chose me

Before You called my name
And claimed me
Before Your child I
Became
There was no beauty in me
No worth
No advantage
No reason for choosing yet

You chose me

In a world of
Fatherless children
Seven thousand million lives
Disconnected and drifting
I am humbled
Pressed to my knees
Amazed beyond understanding!

You chose me

Beautifully written words that gave me pause as I began my day. Thanks.

Well written, lovely and deep thoughts.
Patricia Herchenroether01/29/10
I don't see how this fits the topic (just me, I guess) but the poetry is beautiful-made me smile thinking how God knew and chose me.
Lisa Johnson 01/31/10
I agree with Patricia...I am not sure how the poem fits the topic either...but that being said...it is a beautiful poem that overflows with the joy of being chosen.
Lisa Johnson 01/31/10
I see the point now... kudos.
Verna Cole Mitchell 01/31/10
I loved the beauty of the words, as well as the meaning. Oh, the wonder (huh) that He chose me!
Lollie Hofer 01/31/10
I like how you said, "Huh, me? You chose me?" without specifically saying those words. Well done!
The Masked Truelovers02/02/10
a nice poem expressing the value of every human life to God, even before it is born.
Loren T. Lowery02/03/10
The message in regards to the theme might be understated, but surely the wonder of that message is a universal one racing through all of our minds - "Me? Really?" Great job!
Beth LaBuff 02/03/10
This is a beautifully and powerfully written poem based on Psalm 139. Excellent!
Celeste Ammirata02/03/10
Beautifully written. Humbling words.
Carol Slider 02/03/10
Beautiful, beautiful poetry! Well done.
