Purple Passion
I was a teenager in the 1970’s. I absolutely, positively, beyond a shadow of a doubt, was in love with Donny Osmond.
I read everything there was to read about him. Every week I was at the store, waiting to buy the latest teen magazine with his picture on the cover. I bought all of his records, and memorized every single song. I watched him on TV, and when he came to my town, I begged my mom to let me go to the concert.
Donny’s favorite color was purple, so my favorite color became purple. I painted my bedroom purple, and plastered my closet doors with pictures of Donny. I wore purple clothes, and even decorated my locker at school with the color purple. It wasn’t hard at all for anyone to figure out that I had a thing for Donny Osmond.
I guess you could say that I had a “purple passion” for Donny.
It gives me cause to wonder why we, as Christians, are not as passionate about our relationship with God as we are with other things… the Hollywood celebrity of the week, the most recent reality show on TV, or the fun, new game on the Internet.
I want to read everything there is to read about God. I want to hear His music deep down in my soul, and sing His praises. I want to memorize His Word, and hide it in my heart, that I might not sin against Him. I want to adorn myself, in such a way, that everyone would be able to see that I am absolutely, positively, beyond any shadow of a doubt, in love with God.
I want to have a “purple passion” for God.
