Psalm 92:12-14, “The righteous will flourish like palm trees. . .They are like trees planted in the house of the Lord. . .that still bear fruit in old age, and are always green and strong.”

How carefully,
how tenderly you planted
your word in my heart
nurturing, feeding
watering, weeding
the tender green sprout
that began to grow

Like a tree planted in your house, oh Lord,
whose roots grow deep
beside a flowing stream,
a stream of living water;
whose vibrant emerald leaves
never wither or dry up,
but rather flourish
bearing much fruit even into old age,
lush, verdant, and green.

But, I sought my delight
in a meaningless world,
where leaves were man-made
a dull grayish-green
with dollar signs for veins
and the world was viewed
through the sickly, unnatural
green-tinted glasses of
jealously and envy,
until I was
used up
fed up
dried up.
How I longed to be

Like a tree planted in your house, oh Lord,
whose roots grow deep
beside a flowing stream,
a stream of living water;
whose vibrant emerald leaves
never wither or dry up,
but rather flourish
bearing much fruit even into old age,
lush, verdant, green.

Too long,
too long
have I neglected your word
planted in my heart,
its lovely green leaves
now faded and dull;
too long,
too long
have I stayed away from your
loving
life-giving
life-sustaining presence.
I long to be

Like a tree planted in your house, oh Lord,
whose roots grow deep
beside a flowing stream,
a stream of living water;
whose vibrant emerald leaves
never wither or dry up,
but rather flourish
bearing much fruit even into old age,
lush, verdant, and green.

A river of grace and mercy
flows through your house;
with open arms you wait on the bank,
you welcome home this
world-weary
forlorn sinner,
you prune away
the unsightly growths,
feed and water
the starving roots until
once again I begin to grow

Like a tree planted in your house, oh Lord,
whose roots grow deep
beside a flowing stream,
a stream of living water;
whose vibrant emerald leaves
never wither or dry up,
but rather flourish
bearing much fruit even into old age,
lush, verdant, and green.

You wrapped the topic into a wonderful message that we all need to hear.
The image of Jesus waiting on the river bank with open arms was my favorite line.
