Make Me Lie Down

When my soul feels dead and dry,
And I cannot fathom why,
My heart aches, emits a cry,
Lord, make me lie down.

When refreshing is my need,
and my mind will pay no heed,
Help me learn to let you lead;
And make me lie down.

My own ways bring me no peace,
Pent-up stress without release,
Bid my heavy thoughts to cease;
Oh, make me lie down.

Make me lie in pastures green,
Verdant lushness to be seen,
Places where I have not been;
Yes, make me lie down.

Your place for me, always best,
Gives me freshness, life and rest,
There, as Your invited guest,
Lord, make me lie down.

In the greenness may I feed,
As you meet my every need,
And inspire new love and deed;
Oh, make me lie down.

Of restless spirit, body, soul,
Blessed Shepherd, take control,
Let Thy sweet peace o’er me roll;
And make me lie down.

Green pastures, I seek you now;
To Thy wisdom, Lord I bow,
Changed, refilled, I know not how,
But I will lie down.

Lovely picture of the renewal we can find in Christ. I especially like the verse,"When refreshing is my need and my mind will pay no heed, Help me learn to let you lead; and make me lie down."

Excellent. I loved the message and flow of this verse. So often we resist the very thing we need. Good job and thank you for the reminder.

Your use of rhyme was extremely effective in this piece. Having the first three lines rhyme had the effect of dropping your burdens and resting in the Lord once you get to the fourth line in the stanza. Great writing!
