A dark, putrid stench begins to bubble.
Slithering fumes form fingers of intent.
The most beautiful mutates into evil,
Becoming the tempter, deceiver bent.

Black is the envy of Light.

Communion has ceased in fall of darkness.
Legions rule subtlety; a scattering of forces.
The Love chasmed, the Glory unreachable,
Only the blood brings healing resources.

Black is the absence of Light.

War, hatred, conquering, enslaving,
Torture and murderous rages;
Through centuries of lost creations,
With some set apart on Holy pages.

Black is the absence of Light.

Then for a single solitary moment,
He entered as a man, a star shown bright.
To give Hope in this present darkness,
A story pretold, unrecognizable plight.

Black remains the absence of Light.

Forty days He bantered with evil,
Who would entice, spew lies, failed attempt.
This One would neither falter nor waiver,
Yet feel manís entire burden of tempt.

Black in the presence of Light.

Hosanna was hailed to the Master,
But within days he was mocked and scorned.
For His own chosen lineage gave Him over,
And their own darkness delivered the thorns.

Black is not seeing the Light.

He exhaled his last human whisper.
This darkness covered in final blood.
Creation would now mark His time;
Many will die in belief of this Love.

Black is the absence of Light.

Three thousand years and our nature still separates,
For history and journals document.
Dead soldiers in trenches in Belgium,
Warsaw Ghetto and to gas chambers sent.

Black is the absence of Light.

Two cities in Japan vaporized,
Jungles in Asia napalmed and burned.
Roadside bombs and suicide martyrs,
Lost eyes behind burkhas, discern.

Black is the absence of Light.

In homes, around cities, darkness festers.
Behind trench coats at Columbine High.
Gang warfare spray ammo marking territory,
A child shutters under the violator, stifling her cry.

Black is the absence of Light.

God did not leave us alone in this darkness
For we who know Him, need to turn on the flood.
The more we shine in to this wickedness,
He will cover more souls with cleansing blood.

If black is the absence of Light,
Then show up, switch it on, let it shine!
Christ rose, sin is defeated, just imagine,
A world, your community, blaze Divine!

Wow, the whole Bible in a few hundred words, and spot on topic, too!

FYI--You wanted "shone", not "shown", I think.

Love the imagery and repetition.

Yes, GREAT imagery, and well used to tell this beautiful poetic story.
