What a sad and lonely account of Charley's older years. I think I pity him for all the lost years he spent without his wife by his side--and my heart ached for him because his sons did not share their lives with him. Your writing set the scenes so perfectly that I felt emotionally stirred at the conclusion of your story. I wanted to read more--and that's great writing.

Your style of writing allowed me to quickly form mental pictures of people and places. You made me really feel the emotion of the characters, especially the colonel. You made me hang on every word, hoping for a good end. Great job!
Your keen descriptions made this piece so real. Extraordinary writing charged with emotion!
Wow- this was really terrific. The descriptions were excellent and the story grabbed me right from the start...and kept going till the end. Wonderful.

A good entry! Poor Charlie. I ached for him. You are a master word carpenter! Bravo!
