In the Shadow of His Wings

Are you weary from the battle
In a home thatís not your own
In this world of trials and trouble
Yes, I hear your longing groan

O God, why must I suffer
As the storms rage in this place
How long, O Lord of thunder
Will the dark clouds hide Your face

Come close, O child, and listen
Thereís a place I may be found
Where the Words of life are written
And the peace of God abounds

How can I reach the shadow
In the covert of Your wings
Where songs of joy do overflow
And comfort You do bring

Child, I am not that far away
Iím the Word upon your shelf
Wipe the dust from My Book today
And read it for yourself

I delve into the Scriptures
Like a famished man his bread
And feast on power to endure
The rocky paths I tread

Bring the burdens that you carry
Your hurt, your pain, your sin
Ascend into My sanctuary
And find your rest therein

My soul thirsts for You alone
Your cup spills from these pages
Washing oíer my heart of stone
With Living Waters of the ages

I've longed to have this time, My love
Your grief was Mine to share
I had the answers all along
The help for every care

Resting in your warm embrace
I find strength thatís not my own
Entering on wings of grace
To worship at your throne

Seek me child, with all your heart
Do not neglect My Word
Let not these truths from you depart
Obey what you have heard

Tasting of Your Words so sweet
My heart canít help but sing
Soaring through this heavínly retreat
In the shadow of your wings

Very lovely, and a skillful switching between "voices." Thank you for this gift of poetry.

Super! This poem is full of hope and the peace that only the Father knows how to impart to us. What a blessing to know that we can hide "in the shadow of His wings" and hear His tender heart beating for us as we draw nearer. Blessings.

This is close. I think with work on prosody this could be a great poem.

Loved this! It so captures our humanity and His mercy. We try to go it alone for some strange reason. He cares and waits to comfort. May we never forget to go to Him and abide under the shadow of His wings! Thanks!

I can never write good poetry because every word and beat has to be perfect. I've said it before, I admire poets. It is a difficult craft! This piece is 99% there.. just a couple of slips. A very nice read and an excellent message. You nailed "retreat" perfectly.
