Today I need to be empty:
a thirsty pitcher, ready and waiting,
waiting to be filled
with cool, clear water,
to be poured out for others.
Today I need to be empty:
a clear glass vase, quietly sitting on the table,
waiting to be filled
with fragrant blossoms
filling the air with their sweet incense.
Today I need to be empty:
a blank sheet of paper, eager for the pen’s first kiss,
waiting to be filled
with words to offer comfort,
words that uplift, bring a smile,
words that speak the truth,
words of love and gratitude.
Today I need to be empty:
a tree stark and peaceful in winter’s sleep
waiting to be filled
with spring’s verdure,
a safe haven for small creatures,
cool shade from the summer heat.
Today I need to be empty:
a vacant room, waiting in anticipation,
waiting to be filled
with joy and laughter,
pictures and memories,
the love of a family.
Today I need to be empty:
an empty pantry, shelves clean and ready,
waiting to be filled
with all manner of food,
a feast for the hungry.
Today I need to be empty:
a fallow field, eager to be planted,
waiting to be filled
with seeds, the promise of life.
Today I need to be empty:
a blank canvas, longing for the brush’s first stroke,
waiting to be filled
with vibrant colors
creative and unique,
a work of the Master's hand.
Today I need to be empty:
heart, mind, and soul
waiting to be filled
with your Spirit, Lord,
ready to serve
only to be emptied again
for you.
