While on the leaves the virgin dew abides
While the sun treads the sands of the deep
While the owl dares the sky in bold glides
While silvery sparkles, unstirred, hidden in dead sleep
Night you drift, mist on these green plains,
I see you in orchards of scented blossoms
Drunk, you spill sweet smelling melodies in the rains,
Peerless hopes through eyes of phantoms
Hell of the glorious taste:
Then when She drew apart in desires
When still time lay waste
You breathed from the soot of these doused fires.
Gall of the sun, of the grasping earth
Here lies your luminous beauty! Night
Awaken here, a gory birth
In your gardens my mind ceases its weary flight.
Let fire flies in your eyes dance
Let chirping crickets in thickets rest your restless mind
Let steel moon beams through your tangles lance
Let winds on your wings weave a bind.
Then to silence awake in peace
While away the feathered bell peals
