Could I catch a glimpse of just one day there in Eden?
Could I push aside the thick curtain of the years?
Could I envisage beauty beyond my heart’s perceiving?
Could I detect the music that only Heaven hears?
I stand at such a distance, my sin the separation,
Experiencing the longing which grows yet more and more,
And realise the beauty found in Eden’s pure location,
Comes under the heading of that awesome word ‘BEFORE’.
Could I see the wonder of God’s wonderful creation?
Could I spot the splendour of which there is no end?
Could I begin to picture what my heart desires and longs for -
To walk and talk with God as my dearest, closest Friend?
Could I watch each creature of the earth, the air, the oceans,
And experience the vastness of my Mighty God’s great store?
Could I view the harmony, amazing deep emotions,
No I know that I cannot, this also was ‘BEFORE’.
Could I know real purity in every thought and action?
Could I feel deep joy and trust within a heart content?
Could unselfish love be my only whole reaction
To every situation, in all that I am sent?
Could I glimpse the stillness and perfection of that Garden?
See the Maker’s hand at every turn, and more
Speak to our first parents before their hearts were hardened,
Sadly this I cannot do, for this was all ‘BEFORE’.
.....BEFORE the darkest day on earth when man fell into sin
The curse upon creation as evil entered in.
The entrance of depravity, disease, death and disaster,
O sad, sad day of history, and all that followed AFTER.........
But we can hear God’s word as it thunders through the ages
His promise to that serpent who sought to overthrow:
'Though you may strike His heel, and though the battle rages
The Victory IS won, be assured of this and know
Your head is crushed forever.' What a wonderful foretelling
Of the promise of salvation: The ‘AFTER’ is secure!
Christ died upon the cross because of love compelling
And pours out full forgiveness for my sin that ruled ‘BEFORE.’
Could I catch a glimpse of just one day there in Heaven?
Could I push aside the veil that hides its glories bright?
Could I envisage beauty where all who are forgiven
Sing with Heavenly music to the Lamb enthroned in light.
But when I stand in glory where there is no separation,
With all longing satisfied by the One whom I adore,
I’ll experience the beauty found in Heaven’s pure location,
Where the ‘AFTER’ far eclipses all that has gone ‘BEFORE’.
