Tears are chained around my ankles,
Pain floods me with scalding fire;
Life has tripped me with her trials,
Down I fall into the mire…

Trapped in darkness, locked in fears,
Drowning in the waves of despair—
Hope was vanquished by the pain,
Down I sink, my heart stripped bare…

Guilt is smothering my soul,
I am overcome by shame—
Deeper, deeper, I am sinking,
Down I plunge, my grave to claim…

In the darkness comes a light!
Dawn has brought a ray of sun—
Love has reached out for my hand,
Down no more, for grace has come…

Grace has soothed the scalding fire,
Kisses wash away the tears;
Love is pulling, dragging me,
Up I rise, and hope appears…

Freed from darkness, dawn has come,
Fears are scattered by the light;
Love has shattered all despair,
Up I come, with wings for flight…

Rising o’er the guilt I knew,
Bidding all my shame goodbye;
Love inspires me to the heights,
Up I climb, into the sky!

Very well-written! I liked second to last line of inspiring to the heights. Exactly what we Christ allows us to do! :)
