I’ve a garden that’s growing inside of my heart
With bright flowers and flowering trees,
And the angels, encamping around garden gates,
For my safety are holding the keys.
The blossoming buds of humility here
Mix with purity for a bouquet,
While blooms of thanksgiving and praise to the Lord
Make a beautiful fragrant display.
Some fruits from the trees in my gardening plot
Are gentleness, goodness, and peace,
With patience and kindness and more self-control
And faithfulness never to cease.
And some of the sweetest of fruit can be found
From the trees that produce love and joy,
Which Satan, with all of his tricks and deceit,
Is unable to ever destroy.
The Gardener here is the Spirit of God,
Who’s my Guide through the Scriptures and prayer.
The blessings I find as He cultivates seeds
Are like nothing that I could compare.
The King that rules over my gardening realm,
This kingdom that’s inside my heart,
Is Jesus, Who sits on the right hand of God
And has promised He’ll never depart.
So I’ll cherish what grows in my unworthy heart,
And I’ll follow the rule of my King
Until He returns at the end of the age,
When the Kingdom of Heaven He’ll bring.
