Tajikistan, Tajikistan
With ties to Uzbekistan--
Surrounded by mountains
And river valleys within--
I want to tell your story,
But know not how to begin.
Tajikistan, Tajikistan
Neighbor of Afghanistan--
The turmoil on your borders
Must surely make some pale--
Yet the adventurous still come,
Your mountains to scale.
Tajikistan, Tajikistan
Lying north of Pakistan--
The Pamirs at this boundary
Stand proud and tall--
Peak Salmonid, the largest,
Towers over all.
Tajikistan, Tajikistan
Just south of Kyrgyzstan--
China borders you to the east.
Among former Soviet republics,
you are the least--
Smallest per capita GDP,
But such a water supply
He has given to thee!
Landlocked as you are,
You bear the scars
Of wars you no longer fight--
The international community
Has opened its eyes
And taken notice of your plight.
Tajikistan, Tajikistan
Seeking stability and peace--
True freedom may never come,
Despite your high literacy rate--
Because ninety percent of your people
Don’t read His Book of Truth,
They likely will not know to find
Freedom’s precious Gate.
Tajikistan, Tajikistan
Your greatest need is Him--
The beauty of your lands is not
An accidental whim--
So when you see your glaciers,
Or the streams they feed,
May you see Your Creator
And His love letter read.
