Apostle Paul had been
And saw, while in the land of Greece,
The vistas that he’d seen.
The beautiful Aegean Sea,
With waves of greenish blue,
Was leaping high to catch the sun
Like playful children do.
Profusely grew the pomegranate,
The fig and olive trees,
Along with poppies, brightest red,
That swayed with every breeze.
Green valleys were abounding,
Where shepherds led their sheep
In shadows of gray mountains,
With inclines sharp and steep.
The temples and stone towers there
Were symbols of the story,
The monuments to bygone days
Of Grecian power and glory.
From harbors resting quietly
To cities that were walled,
I saw so many wondrous sights,
My senses were enthralled
I visited the ancient ruins,
Now under excavation,
And thought how Paul had been here once
To reach a Gentile nation.
I visualized his presence in
The ancient marketplace,
On stone steps and at synagogue,
Each step that I’d retrace.
So when I read the letters now
From Paul’s inspired pen,
My heart recalls my journey, and
I’m back in Greece again.
