The USA, that is a thought to ponder. What does she mean to me outside of clichés and in a nutshell?

I’m thinking. Actually I’m really not thinking at all. I’m feeling instead. I am the flag, high upon the pole, unfurling in the wind. I am at full mast. I am proud. I am free and dancing in the wind. I have met the sun and felt the rain. I have looked towards the rainbows end. I have endured the entirety of the night and not been afraid. I am a sign of hope to those who will still look to me. I am wholly American.

I am diversity in land, in people, in opportunities from sea to shining sea. Vast and unhampered I am challenged by many and conquered by few. My rolling hills entice, while my flatlands offer opportunities for sustenance. I am warm. I am cold. I am green. I am gold.

By those who live in me I am called beautiful; land of the free and home of the brave; sweet land of liberty; one nation under God. To those who don’t live in me I am sometimes known as having wealthy, arrogant people, and loose women. But that is not me. I am a land where dreamers can dream and planners can plan. I have been home to the evil and the good, the lowly and the rich, the taker and the giver, the saved and the unsaved.

I am an environment where opinions are offered whether wanted or not. Expression is open and so are the forms of doing so. The one who wields this pen sees me as a voice. This voice can be feeble or strong or yet even boisterously bold. All can be uttered in whispers or shouts or anywhere in between. I am the USA.

The USA, that is a thought to ponder. I’m not so sure she can be captured in or out of clichés, most certainly, not in a nutshell.

from "I am the flag" to "I am the U.S.A." was beautifully written, so moving. So please accept the following with its kind intention: I found that the intro and the concluding words detracted from the rest of the piece. You have a great way with words...keep writing.

Very well-done personification of America. I enjoyed it.

Oh, I really like the metaphor of the flag! Great job!
