What is Christmas?

We used to think of Christmas as
The day of Jesus’ birth,
The day that God the Father sent
His precious Son to Earth.

The season when we remember
The birthday of a King.
Who gave up his throne in glory
To give us everything.

The time of year to shop for gifts
For friends and loved ones dear;
But we should celebrate Christmas
Every day of the year.

Now many have forgotten what
The birth of Jesus means;
And the Christmas hustle-bustle
Is no longer what it seems.

Jesus

He’s the reason that we celebrate
Yet, all the stores where we shop,
Say Happy Holidays, since saying
Merry Christmas had to stop.

It’s okay to use profanity
Or to take God’s name in vain,
But try saying Merry Christmas and
They will think you’ve gone insane.

This year many don’t even have jobs,
Why buy gifts you can’t afford?
There were times that we just enjoyed
Being together…and we weren’t bored.

Sitting ‘round the tree in fellowship
Counting our blessings untold,
Singing and praising the Lord for things
Worth more than silver or gold.

This year let’s get back to the basics
Like the birthday of a King;
Be thankful for family and friends
And all the joy that they bring.

You've given us some good advice in this rhyme. Thanks for the challenging message. Col.

Dare I say, "Have a Merry Christmas?"
