There was a man at Christmas time
Whose family home was so sublime
With wife so fair and children kind
No better life for him to find

He cared not for things above
No need for God or for His love
The man had all he cared to own
Material goods were all he’d sown

Life was well no need to fret
His family loved him still and yet…
They missed his presence at the church
While in his lounger he did perch

This man needn’t to be saved
He made a living and behaved
He paid his taxes to be sure
And when sick, there was a cure

But came the day on Christmas Eve
When family off to church did leave
And as he sat by fireplace warm
He heard a thump to his alarm

Another and another sounded
When out of lounger he abounded
Throwing curtains back to see
What that thumping noise could be

A wounded bird lay in the snow
Under window’s amber glow
The man was thrown of what to do
As another bird at window flew

Birds just wanting to get warm
But flew at window did them harm
The man rushed out to open barn
And swished his arms as if to warn

The birds did never understand
That for their lives this man had planned
A way to save them from demise
Why did they never realize?

“If I could be as one small bird
They would follow and be stirred
To be saved from death’s lair
I could save them from despair”

Then the man on bended knee
Understood the Savior’s plea
To come to earth just to win
His heart and save him from his sin
