Come home for Christmas,
despised and lonely one;
come to the place
where you are known and loved,
where your fears are assuaged
in your Father’s strong arms,
and the gentleness of a Mother
binds your sore, bleeding feet
from travels over the rough
and unforgiving road of life.
Come home for Christmas,
you who are weary,
overwhelmed and overworked;
rest before the fire that never dies
until all the ice cold chunks
of doubt and cynicism are melted away,
and tiny sparks of hope and faith
are once again ignited within your heart.
Come home for Christmas,
you who are hungry and thirsty;
see the banquet the Father has prepared for you,
eat and be satisfied
on the Bread of Life,
quench your thirst
with the soul-satisfying wine of salvation.
Come home for Christmas,
lost and wandering one;
a light shines in the window
to welcome you home,
a party is waiting
to celebrate your return,
the Father waits with open arms
to gather you in,
where you are loved, accepted, forgiven.
Come home for Christmas,
you who are in mourning and despair;
leave your bags of grief at the door
and run into the Father’s arms,
for the Father longs to comfort you,
to ease your pain and suffering
and tenderly dry away your tears.
Come home for Christmas,
all children of the Father,
rejoice and sing together,
enjoy being with each other,
delight in being a part of the Father’s family.
Come home for Christmas.
