How many people ‘round this earth
Give little thought to Jesus’ birth?
Maybe at Christmas time they’re stirred
To contemplate on what they’ve heard---
To ponder these things in their heart?

Perhaps amidst the twinkling lights
They’ll catch a dim and fleeting sight
Of someone they once heard about---
A once cherished hope---dulled by doubt---
A Child who came one Christmas night?

Perhaps the songs of carolers
Some sentiment of comfort stirs
As they recall sweet childhood joys---
A memory doubt can’t destroy
Of songs once sung in winter furs?

Maybe they’ll see in giving gifts
Some hint of love---their spirit lifts---
For love can soften hardened hearts:
Could Season’s kindness play a part
In pointing to the Greatest Gift?

Perhaps the Gift of God they’ll find
Hid in the customs of this time---
The gift of everlasting life
Which God provides in Jesus Christ---
A gift to which they’ve long been blind!!

I don't know about other lands, but in the USA Christmas is overdone to say the least. Too much money spent, too much food and drink, too much decorating, etc.... It is so contrary to the simplicity that is found in Christ. But how I love your suggestion... "Perhaps the Gift of God they'll find hid in the customs of this time..." Wonderful writing! May God bless this beautiful poem.

Vince, in case you don't see the Highest Rankings each week, I just wanted to let you know that you did very well in the Challenge this week. Even though you didn't quite make it into the winners' circle, you made it into the highest rankings for Level 3, placing 7th for the level. You also made it into the Highest Rankings overall, placing 31st out of all the entries for the week.

The competition is always extremely intense in Level 3, so well done. Keep up the great writing.

If you would like to check the highest rankings for yourself, you can see them here:
