I must live my life as a child who, having loving parents, awaits Christmas.
The child knows that she can expect gifts and blessings at Christmastime because her loving parents will provide for her.
I, too, must always believe and expect that my loving Father will provide for me.
The child will not dwell on whether or not she deserves these blessings, even knowing in her heart that she made her little brother cry. Besides, she already discussed that with her parents, and they forgave her.
I, too, must always remember that God’s blessings are a gift, even if I don’t deserve them. But I must always tell Him when I make my brother cry because, if I am truly sorry, He will forgive me.
The child will not have expectations about how these gifts and blessings will materialize. Her loving parents will take care of that.
I, too, must trust the Lord, without expectations. Even though I can expect Him to provide, I do not need to have expectations for the circumstances. God will take care of the details because He sees the whole plan, I do not.
The child surrenders herself up to the wonder of Christmas and all that it brings, even the unexpected. She simply trusts and feels joy.
I, too, must surrender to the wonder of my life as God has mapped it out, even the unexpected. I must delight in it and feel joy.
I must always expect, but without expectations.
