This is so poignant. I love the images "the small tin box on the counter" and the "large bay window" with the "bare oaks and hickories" standing "against the thick morning fog." I love the hope-filled contrast of your ending "until he could gaze upon the pasture and thills and the mountains beyond". Beautiful words!

The slow, tender pace of this is just perfect. I felt like I was there,in the kitchen. All the details and dialogue were so realistic. Great job!

The love in this family drew me in and held me. I found myself wiping tears, which rarely happens from a story. Their memories of their mother were so tender.

This really hit me, especially about my recipe box. It's probably a discussion I need to have with my kids. I hope they'll want to preserve some of our old traditions.
