Impatience knocks
begs me to play
throws discontent at me all day
makes me annoyed
with plans and rules
wisdom blocks

Impatience stays
gaining new ground
momentum gained, she sticks around
tossing her curves
and growing strong
life delays

Impatience goes
where’re I go
follows behind a step or so
nudges me, nags,
nips at my heels
never slows

Impatience sighs
shouts in my ear,
“Hurry! move on! Don’t linger here!”
breathes down my neck
clears her throat
peace denies

Impatience pokes
she agitates
like fingers on a chalkboard grates
raises blood pressure
quickens pulse
pain provokes

Impatience raps
on tabletop
counts the seconds; tick…tick…tock
churns my stomach
makes me ill
vigor zaps

Impatience frets
when I am tired
changes to frenzy when I’m ired
needles by day
disturbs by night
fuels regrets

Impatience steals
much of my day
moments of joy wishes away
dispels delight
With anger seethes
love conceals

Impatience flees
from Spirit’s breath
knows her end; finds her death
gives way to peace
grows calm and still
Jesus sees

This is excellent form for your entry, creative placement of words with great meter and rhyme--all-in-all, a great poem

I really like the pattern you use in this poem-wonderful to read aloud! Great wisdom shown-if only I would let the Spirit capture my Impatience from time to time.
Allison Egley 08/31/08
Oh, I loved the rhythm, flow, AND message of this! Great poem all around.

So you just "whipped this out" at the last minute, eh? Nice whipping!

A very nice little poem about the reality of impatience.

I love how you started each line with something that impatience does and then ended with a closing line that rhymes with the first. Very clever, and what you were saying about impatience is so very true. It can cause us a lot of problems if we let it.

I appreciate you sharing this.

Especially like the verses with the last lines stating God's promises: "...wisdom blocks,
...life delays,
...peace denies,
...love conceals,
...Jesus sees."

Very nice. :)
