Angel of Light
Lucy4: Saw your personal in the “Living Faith” chat room.
Fishfinder: You sound lonely.
Fishfinder: Actually, I’ve just moved from home. Looking for some friendship.
Lucy4: If you’re some predator looking for some naïve teen you can forget it. You can see from my pictures that I don’t fit that frame.
Fishfinder: Actually, you look like a distant cousin of Marilyn Monroe, but don’t worry. I’m at Bible school studying to be a pastor.
Lucy4: That is so cool. I’m studying the Bible a lot lately. Like this morning I was reading 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”. Are you afraid of me? Were you dissing me by that reference to Marilyn Monroe?
Fishfinder: Not at all. You look great. Like someone right out of a professional studio.
Lucy4: It’s my last year’s grad picture. You can only be who you are, right? What’s a calendar boy like you do when you’re not memorizing the prophets?
Fishfinder: Funny you should ask? Actually, we’re supposed to be out witnessing right now but I didn’t feel like doing any face to face stuff right now so thought I’d try another angle.
Lucy4: Are you telling me that the only reason you’re on here is for spiritual scalps? You don’t really care about who I am?
Fishfinder: Guess I’m not too good at this, am I?
Lucy4: John 8:32 says “The truth will set you free…”. Maybe you just need a little coaching. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself? If you want friends you have to get real. If you want fish you need bait that works.
Fishfinder: To tell you the truth, my parents have gone to church all their lives but they haven’t got this marriage thing figured out yet. My dad left home for a year once and I got caught up with everything I could get my hands and eyes on. My youth pastor helped me last year to get free of a lot of stuff so you might say I’m making a new start.
Lucy4: Hope those shots of me at the beach don’t make things hard for you. Sometimes friends aren’t so discreet. I haven’t always been the way I am now. Things change. I understand that. It’s tough to be away from everyone who has been helping you with that change.
Fishfinder: My youth pastor says I should find an accountability partner.
Lucy4: What a great idea? Do you have anyone yet?
Fishfinder: I just can’t seem to see anyone here who might understand my struggles.
Lucy4: Maybe we could help each other. Some of the guys seem to think I’m still struggling with finding the right level of modesty. I could coach you on making friends and you could coach me on what to wear.
Fishfinder: I don’t know. We don’t really even know each other.
Lucy4: Hey, didn’t you write a blog on the elections not too long ago.
Fishfinder: You saw that? Wow! I have to admit I really hadn’t figured out this whole faith thing back then.
Lucy4: I really feel like I got to know your heart through reading that blog. I think some people get really hung up on the outward appearances and don’t let others get inside them but you just were so open.
Fishfinder: It’s probably one of my weaknesses. Sometimes I think I’m too impulsive. It’s like I haven’t figured out what’s okay and what’s not until it’s already too late.
Lucy4: Everywhere you go you’re going to find others pretending to be what they’re not. Someone has to be real. I think if you’re going to be a pastor you need to be real about your temptations and weaknesses. I think your youth pastor is right. You need someone like me to help you out.
Fishfinder: I’m getting this weird shiver up my back and this tension in my neck.
Lucy4: A sure sign I’m on the right path. Why don’t you jog it off and then let me know when you and I can connect and figure out this accountability thing?
Fishfinder: I just looked at my Bible and it says in Gal 5:1 [NIV]“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free . Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Thanks for chatting. I’ve learned a lot. I think I’ll ask my roommate.
Lucy4:I’ll see you again soon.
