Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse,
The cat's "Meow",
But now just an ex-telephone
Just take a good look at you now.
I remember the day many years ago
When you were the craze of the town
Ma Bell had made you into a telephone
And the public just couldn't turn you down.
Ma Bell manufactured only a few of you
And believe me - you were ultra unique
But due to time and age, my pet,
You're now just an old antique.
I bought you, Mickey, hot off the press
Purchasing you for a song...
And you have served me well for years
But lately you've been doing me wrong.
I sit beside you night and day
Hoping and praying you'll ring;
But you sit there in silence, completely mute
And you've been treating me that way since Spring.
I check on you each morning
To see if your're plugged in the wall
Then listen to see if your dial tone hums,
So, please Mick, "Where's my call?"
I know you have no speaking voice
But I cannot abide your neglect;
A telephone's suppose to ring and connect
And truthfully, that's what I expect?
In order to 'Ring" - somebody must dial
Of this I'm keenly aware....
Then suddenly I'm crying and sobbing aloud...
And I sink to my knees by my chair.
"Earth to Heaven! Please connect!... anybody there?"
And suddenly I hear my Father's voice:
"Yes, my child, I'm here, don't fear,
And now that you've called...Heaven and I will rejoice! "
Footnote:
And as for the fate of my Mickey Mouse Phone
He's still a fantastic piece of art
And I hold him in great esteem
But Minnie holds the strings to his heart.
