Tears are indeed cleansing. Thank you so much for sharing, this. I feel raw emotion stemming from it-especially at the end-your last lines were very special. ^_^
I loved the powerful line, "He came home a cripple; the war had stolen his spirit." This line helps even the reader redefine their picture of your dad. It sheds the light of understanding. I, too, misunderstood my dad growing up. I thought his temper and his desire for perfection indicated that I didn't measure up. But adulthood has changed my view. A piece like you've written could go far in helping others realize the same things.
Your last line was brilliant. Congrats on your win. This was an excellent piece and well deserved. Although my husband has been sober for more than 20 years now, you've managed to show me yet another side of the addiction, an understanding I didn't have before. Well done.
Wow, Dianne. I felt like you were writing part of my own story too, only you were brave enough to write about it (unlike me). Well done, and congrats on your EC!
Dianne! This is a beautifully written tribute, that could be written only by someone whom the Lord has forgiven. It's an amazing story. I'm so pleased you received an EC with this. Super congrats!!
Whoo hoo! An EC! Awesome writing, Dianne! I'm so happy for you-Congratulations! ^_^
Congratulations on your well deserved EC. This is so touching.
Congratulations on your EC. This is beautiful writing. Nice job.
Congratulations on your win. The title is a perfect set up for a well told, emotional read. Great, great work.
Great job on presenting this heart breaking story. War is something that no man should be forced to endure, as it destroys the lives of those who survive as well. I really appreciated the way which you examined the father from both perspectives.
Deeply moving. I wonder how many other alcoholic war-hero Dads are out there? A link to this article should be sent to all their children. Thankyou for having the guts to share this, as it must have been so painful.
Congratulations on a thoroughly well-deserved EC.
