My rotting heart has reeked with sin,
My soul has burned with stripes of shame—
I chose a path which led to this
And I have no one but myself to blame…

The sunrise holds no hope for me,
It brings back pain which never dies;
I might look happy at a glance,
And yet this smile is made of painted lies!

I’m dying, cancer killing me,
The cancer of a life of sin,
I might look happy at a glance,
But I am slowly dying from within…

Until you came…

You held out words of hope to me,
The words just crumbled in your hands…
I’ve heard them all in days gone by;
I lost the hope to understand.

Your words were blown into the wind,
And pushed me deeper in despair…
I’m sorry!—There’s no hope for me,
There is no answer to your prayers…

But still you came…

You let the words just drop away,
And let your life toss out the rope—
My reeking heart should have repelled you,
But you showed me the light of hope…

Disgusting in the decay of sin,
You reached through darkness, gave a hug,
Now hope has planted seeds of life
Because you dared to live out love…

And I was changed forever
Because you came…
