If heeded warning signs can help prevent tragic consequences associated with youth violence, storms, strokes, heart attacks, suicide, child abuse, traffic, global warming, approaching trains, eating disorders, drug abuse, relationship violence, and so on.
For example, there were many warning signs written in a report on file with the Child Welfare Agency in an unnamed state that advised against returning the child in question to her mother. The warnings were ignored and the mother eventually murdered the child.
Another tragic incident that could have been prevented by heeding early warning signs was the levee disaster in New Orleans, Louisiana during hurricane Katrina. The engineers reportedly knew in advance that the levees could not stand up to a strong hurricane force like Katrina. Many lives were needlessly lost because of the break in the levees.
A final incident of ignoring warning signs became evident in many of the school shootings. Over and over again, it was reported that parents, teachers, and friends saw the warning signs but very few did anything about them.
A prompt action on the part of all who failed to heed the warning signs in these incidents might have avoided the serious consequences.
