Fishers Of Men
At no time was there ever more need of the existence and influence of the true universal Christian church, than there is now. However, in order to exercise their legitimate sway, the churches must love man, as man, with burning Christ-like, Divine passion love. The churches must be people called together to worship God and not man. Where every member is redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, conquered by His love and regenerated by His Spirit. His name is on every forehead, His praise on every tongue, and His love in every heart; to every one of them His name is music, His face is beauty and His presence is heaven.
The churches must cease from flaunting their sectional disagreements, and petty interests in the eyes of the world. Cease from indulging in spiritual pride and mere sectarian considerations and set about to save souls, leading them to their full stature in Jesus Christ. Catching men and building up their spiritual manhood regardless of race; holding before them high and clear the sacred ideals of the soul; interpreting to them their own nature and life in the light of God.
When therefore considered in this light, the mission of the churches is not fully exhausted as long as there remains one wandering soul away from the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Unless the churches are so conditioned and inspired to become “fishers of men,” they will become just another exhausted dead institution.
