“You are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” —Ephesians 2:19-22 (NIV)
The Church is built with bricks and mortar,
A special place for God to dwell;
A structure that withstands the storms
Of all the fury loosed from hell;
The Church’s bricks are human souls,
The mortar is the love that binds:
We’re made a home for God Himself
As differences are left behind;
We miss the beauty of God’s plan
When our disputes tear us apart;
We mar the Church with our division
And miss the dreams that warm God’s heart;
Each time a gift of love is given,
Each tiny act of kindness shown,
The Church is made a little stronger,
For love is what will build God’s home;
Let love provide the fusing needed
Until the Architect is done
And God’s eternal home complete
When we, His Church, are bound as one!
