Expectant faces stare my way.
I do not want to disappoint.
Desire is to feed my flock.
I hope to do just that today.

Throughout the week as I prepare,
I ponder what to teach and how
To challenge my parishioners
Who give me that expectant stare.

I long for each one sitting here
To know the Lord and look to Him
In ev’rything they say and do –
To treasure, hold their Savior near.

So how can I communicate
The closeness they can have with Him –
Relationship so intimate,
If all to Him they’ll dedicate?

Beyond what I will say today,
It’s how I live my life that speaks
Of what my Savior means to me.
It shows in what I do and say.

Must show I’m one who deeply cares
For them and for a Holy God.
I know that they are watching me.
Can feel their deep expectant stares.

Your poem gives a wonderful description of what it's like to be the pastor who is expected to deliver a sermon every week. It must be quite intimidating and daunting sometimes, to face this task, week after week! And, the people expect a GREAT sermon every week, too!
