Beloved, I need your prayers and the strength of the Holy Spirit to fight this darkness of my soul. Fear overtakes my heart. Pray that I will stand for Him and not betray His love. They will ask me to renounce my faith – and my denial of the Lord will be all that can save my earthly life. But, I know that such a betrayal will cost dearly in the life to come. What pain my soul would suffer to look on His face, and know that I would not stand for Him! Yet only He can be my strength now. His blood availed for me. May mine avail for the glory of His name.
My life is now only hours from its end. I do not fear going to meet my Savior – but I do fear the journey. It will be one of torture and of hideous pain that I dare not imagine. The anguish within me almost causes me to faint. I only hope that I can last it through and arrive triumphant. I must stand for Him.
It is my joy that the one who holds the key to this cell is now our brother in Christ. It is he who helps me send this scrap of paper into your hands. I am so lonely. My time is short and my weakness great. Pray for me with all that is within you. Never forget that to the moment of my death, I will pray for you. I long to see you one more time.
He who carries this letter will expect payment.
Yours until we meet at Christ’s feet,
Valentine
