Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like silverware clinking on china
By families dining together?
Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like giggles and great gales of laughter
From good-humored joking and teasing?
Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like running and jumping and shouting
Of children excitedly playing?
Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like low murmured crying and praying
By folks sharing each others’ sorrows?
Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like basketballs bouncing on pavement
By teens in exuberant challenge?
Oh, what is that sound that is coming to me,
Sounding like singing of grand hymns and praise songs
Of harmonies offered in worship?
Oh, I know those sounds that are coming to me.
They're the sounds made by Christian believers
As they gather for fellowship times.
Here they share in their love for the Savior
With a mutual faith in salvation
And the hope of a heavenly home.
And though this is something that I cannot hear,
I can sense the sweet Spirit among them
As He’s binding the body as one.
