Eternity trapped in an instant,
That fateful hinge on which swings the door to infinite possibility
Or looming disaster that snares the unwary who blindly rush into the room
Do I press on with incomplete reconnaissance and stumble into ambush
Or will it be my very hesitation that seals my doom?

If I choose to step forward I spurn all other outcomes,
There is no further choice between best and shallow impostors
Yet in mere balancing an abundance of prospects there is no sum
Merely a subtraction of time as opportunities fade like morning’s stars

There is no unmade choice, merely fruit that withers on the vine
Unripened and malodorous its weighty pull draws living limbs to expire in the dust
No energetic morning birdsong lifted on verdant light by prismatic leaf refined
Only the dry clattering of beetles scratching and scraping through pungent must

The razor cusp cuts cleanly between action and inertia
Bold thrust or meek motionless capitulation, sever or be severed
Wield the knife or yield one’s life, act or be acted upon
Suffer the vicissitudes without complaint or act and be delivered

The missile cannot be guided until it is fired,
No course correction is possible until the course is underway
No plan is ever complete until it is expired
Begin the journey with map in mind but step out without delay

Take heart when teetering on the precipice,
Love has spread its net for you
When acting in obedient service to the iron requirement of a loving king
Remember that He promises to bear you up on angel wing

Abram called to promised land and Moses to the smoking mountain
Joshua to the battle, David to face the giant, Christ to His cross
Choices made and perils faced without reckoning gain or loss
But knowing well the caller, they drank deep from courage’s fountain

To spend or hoard whatever coins are entrusted to your care
Depends on whether you can trust that in the end the judge be fair
Be bold, be brave, spend wisely but with all your might
Will not the Judge of all the earth judge right?

Excellent work! I loved it. Bold action can result in bold successes. This especially good thing when it means the Kingdom of Heaven grows bigger.

Good work!

"Take heart when teetering on the precipice,
Love has spread its net for you."

I really like that thought! This poem is wonderful and full of wisdom and encouragement. I need to read it again to glean every bit of truth from it!

What a medley of wonderful images here! The 'sink your teeth into this' element in this poem is like dining on roast beef instead of jello fluff! Yum! Great poem!

Wow...What a wealth of images, concepts, analogies, and poetic expressions! I loved this: "There is no unmade choice, merely fruit that withers on the vine." Chicken soup this ain't! Wonderful piece.
