Good morning. This is Samuel Doherty, reporting once again for LKH Radio. This is now the fifth day that our nation, and indeed the world, has been without access to television or the Internet. The freak atmospheric conditions continue to block most electronic transmissions but thus far radio broadcasts have been unaffected. For as long as this crisis lasts, we here at LKH will bring you the breaking news.

Before we start with today’s latest developments, let’s hear from our current affairs editor, Caroline Meyers, for a summary of the shocking events that have brought our world to the brink of catastrophe. Good morning, Caroline…

Good morning to you, Sam. Well, unless you have just awakened from a severe coma, I hardly need to remind you that we are now into our fourth week of what some have called unprecedented environmental chaos. This all started with a severe hailstorm, worldwide in scope, that in less than twenty-four hours decimated 75% of the US wheat crop. The French wine industry predicts it will take ten years to return to full capacity. Believe me - you really don’t what to know what has happened to the maize harvest in Africa! Looking globally, experts predict that up to 35% of this year’s arable crops have been destroyed.

And if this wasn’t bad enough, ten days later we all learned about Artemis, an enormous meteor that astronomers swore blind would easily miss the Earth by a million miles. Well, if you ask me Sam, that’s proof enough that you can never trust a scientist! Artemis plunged into the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the largest tsunami in living memory. Entire cities in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines were wiped off the face of the earth, with tens of thousands of cargo ships being lost in the deluge. Furthermore rare metals within the body of the meteor appear to have contaminated fish stocks across a wide area, threatening the future livelihood of countless millions.

As most of our listeners will be aware, North Korea interpreted the tsunami as a military strike and launched its full compliment of nuclear ballistic missiles. Seoul was taken out in less than a minute, but worldwide Armageddon was averted – thanks to President Bush’s much maligned missile defence shield. Unfortunately the aerial detonations seem to have adversely affected the water supplies throughout much of Asia and the Middle East. Reports are still coming in of key reservoirs and rivers having become contaminated with radioactive fallout. Thankfully the water supplies throughout America and Western Europe remain safe to drink – fingers crossed for now.

That seemed to be the end of the matter until the bizarre happenings just five days ago. Scientists at NASA have confirmed that the intensity of sunlight falling on the earth’s surface has been reduced by 37%. And yet orbiting satellites show that the sun itself remains unchanged. There have been all sorts of reasons suggested, from pollution to global warming to a link with the P’yǒngyang missile explosions, but thus far nothing definite has been proved. All we know is that the sun, moon and stars are noticeably but inexplicably dimmer. Personally I can live without my two weeks of sun worship on the beach – what’s killing me is not being able to access my email. And my five-year-old daughter keeps asking when Cartoon Network will be back! Over to you, Sam…

Many thanks, Caroline. Yesterday we ran a feature on the looting that was breaking out in major towns and cities. Reports are coming in today of a very strange occurrence: there has been a huge increase in the number of people being admitted to hospital for snakebite poisoning. Yet witnesses say that the bites are not from snakes but from a hitherto unknown type of winged scorpion. Could this be some bizarre biological weapon? Or an unexpected consequence of over-reliance on GM crops? Whatever it is, we’ll keep you posted. But in the meantime stay indoors, keep your windows shut, and if anything even looks like it might be dangerous, squish it!

In a moment a word from our sponsor. After the break, we will be asking where is God in all this confusion? Does he have a clue? Is Bin-Laden correct that this is Allah’s revenge for the invasion of Iraq? Is it bad karma? Could this really be the end of the world? Or should we be looking afresh at the healing power of crystals? Back right after this message…

I really like how you put the events of Revelation into today's scenario. What a horrible confusing time for our world...they'll need someone they can turn to for answers during this time, someone to make sense of the confusion. I really like what you did with the topic. VERY thought provoking! Glad I won't be there.

Not having any idea who wrote this, I can't imagine your age — but this sounds like it could have been that famous radio broadcast by Orson Wells away back (before my time too, I think!)that was so dramatic and real-sounding that people actually thought that Martians HAD invaded the planet. The difference here is that you could very well be describing how it will really sound when those final days come. Very well done.

A brilliant take on Revelations. Since you are obviously a good writer I would like to see more use of adjectives to describe some things. Example in paragraph 3 you used the word "severe" twice. How about deep coma or a fierce hailstorm, just a suggestion I am sure you can up with more. Good writing keep up the good work.

We can only imagine. This is a good take it what might be.

Oooh, I don't want to be here when all of this takes place! As it is, every time I swipe my card at the grocery, I think of Revelation and the money situation in the end times! You did a great job in describing how the world might view the catastrophes, according to God's Word, that are coming. *Shudder*
